There are many options including furnished or unfurnished. Rent varies depending on location, facilities and the size of the house or apartment. Carlton, the Central Business District (CBD) and Parkville house the majority of tertiary students. Working in Melbourne On an Australian student visa, you can work up to 20 hours per week in the school term and full-time in the holidays. Almost all international students who live in Melbourne study full-time. For those students who wish to work, there are the advantages of earning money and practising English. Most universities and colleges have employment services to assist students in fi nding a job. Various industries in Victoria are experiencing skills shortages. Students tend to work in industries with fl exible hours such as hospitality and retail. Geelong – a cosmopolitan city Geelong is the second largest city in Victoria with more than 190,000 people. Just 50 minutes from Melbourne, it is the gateway to some of Australia’s most beautiful coastline known as the Great Ocean Road. Geelong is a cosmopolitan city that is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts as it has an incredible rainforest, mountainous cliffs as well as aquatic centres and sporting venues. Geelong features historic buildings, cultural and natural attractions and a diverse lifestyle. It is a leading centre for business and professional services, with the fastest-growing areas for jobs in health, business, tourism and hospitality. Geelong enjoys a moderate climate and in summer, its average maximum is 23° C although some days are much hotter than this. Winters are cool with a minimum of 6.6° C and a maximum of 14° C. The city provides excellence in education with 120 primary schools, 34 secondary colleges, TAFE colleges and one university with many campuses. It is also home to some of Australia’s leading and most famous private schools.
