Established in 1911, UWA has an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Vocational institutes – gaining expertise TAFE WA is a network of major colleges with 50 campuses across WA – both around the capital city of Perth and throughout regional areas of the state. Run by the Government of Western Australia, TAFE WA is the largest provider of vocational education and training in the state, with over 150,000 Australian students and around 1500 international students enrolled each year. TAFE WA offers more than 250 certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses to international students. A TAFE WA qualification will provide you with the skills needed to get a good job. You may also gain advanced entry into a university degree with credits of up to 18 months of a degree granted. There are numerous privately-owned vocational education and training colleges throughout Perth providing state- of-the-art facilities and services. You will gain the most advanced, applied expertise to ensure you are skilled for direct employment, or are able to gain entry into both Australian and overseas universities. Pathways to university Flexibility is a must in a quality education system. That is why Perth colleges offer a variety of fully integrated, flexible pathways to university if you do not meet entry requirements. There are both government and non- government providers with university linkages offering direct entry into undergraduate degree courses through their customised programs. There are two types of foundation studies – a one-year course, equivalent to Year 12 at an Australian high school, or a university foundation program.
