The Education Destination : Australia The Education Destination 2010
australia the education destination | 7 7 Close to 6000 organisations and faculties worldwide recognise IELTS as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation. Jointly owned and managed by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), IELTS testing is available at more than 500 locations in 121 countries. IELTS tests include reading, writing, listening and speaking sections. IELTS is the only English test giving candidates a personal, one-on-one speaking test with an examiner. With IELTS, candidates have a choice between the Academic and General Training versions of the test. The reading and writing modules in the Academic version assess whether a candidate is ready to study or train in English at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. The General Training reading and writing modules emphasise basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context. The General Training version of IELTS is suitable for candidates who are going to English-speaking countries to complete their secondary education, to undertake work experience or training programs below degree level, or for immigration purposes to Australia. A score to help you study in Australia All tests are scored on a banded system from 1 (the lowest) through to 9 (the highest possible score). The candidate receives a score for each of the four modules in the test and an overall score. An average score of 6.5 is deemed to demonstrate sufficient understanding of the English language for overseas students to study at most universities. Most candidates tend to score between 4.5 and 6.5. “An IELTS score can help candidates study in Australia and experience our unique way of life and outstanding education facilities,” Mr Belleville says. Accountant, Juan Rodrigo Robles, says: “IELTS changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. I still remember when the idea of migrating to Australia was a wild dream. Now, I am the wild one! I have a great accounting job, lots of new friends, and my family enjoys every inch of Brisbane!” “having a qualifying ielts score allows international students and skilled migrants to access education and employment opportunities in australia.” John belleville, ielts director To take the next step to study in Australia, visit www.ielts.org and find out more about IELTS, your nearest test centre and the many institutions that will recognise your IELTS score.
