Wenona is a non-denominational girls’ school catering for 800 students from Kindergarten to Year 12, including a small boarding community of about 50 girls, from all over Australia and the world. While the School’s motto – Ut Prosim, that I may serve – remains the same as it was in 1886, and still inspires in students an awareness of the needs of others, much about Wenona continues to change. The vision is for Wenonians to be women of spirit who are well educated, independent, self-motivated and responsible; women who have the confidence and flexibility to achieve personal success, and who see unlimited horizons for themselves. A technology rich school, Wenona was one of the first schools in Australia to introduce a laptop program in the 1990s and students enjoy creating and using diverse multimedia resources. global outlook for students The academic peer culture and Evening Study Centre for Wenona Senior College students encourages consistently impressive results. For the past few years, more than half of Wenona’s Year 12 students have achieved HSC results in the top 10% of the State. However, much of the action at Wenona takes place outside the classroom where co-curricular opportunities include musicals, an orchestra and other music ensembles, dance, choir, a host of sports, the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme and more. Wenona’s global outlook extends to the teaching of Mandarin from Kindergarten, with Japanese, French and German offered as additional options in later years. Hockey and netball players visited the UK in 2010, and there are regular cultural tours to Indochina and Europe. Middle School students have the opportunity to volunteer at Wenona’s sister schools in Vanuatu each year. A music tour to Europe is planned as part of the 125th birthday celebrations. In keeping with Wenona’s motto, all tours include a service learning component. ■ Find out more Web: www.wenona.nsw.edu.au email: email@example.com above: The vision for students is to be women of spirit who are well educated, independent, self-motivated and responsible. celebrating 125 years of excellence in girls' education throughout 2011, Wenona school in north sydney is celebrating impressive results and a caring community.
