Studying education to be a teacher was my initial career goal, and I decided to do a double degree to give me more career options in the future. I chose Monash University to grow professionally and individually, and to develop confidence as a teacher. ‘My course includes a professional placement option in a range of locations, and this gave me the opportunity to challenge myself further and apply my communication skills with students. Monash University has helped me to mature as a person and develop good study and interpersonal skills. I just love this course at Monash!’ DIVERSE RANGE OF PROGRAMS You’ll find a course or research program to match your academic and career goals. Australian universities offer thousands of courses across a diverse range of subject areas. You can specialise in a very particular field or take a broader approach. More than 243,000 international students are enrolled in universities across Australia in a wide range of disciplines. The education system encourages lifelong learning so you can upgrade your skills with a university program at any point in your career. At the undergraduate level, you can study a bachelor degree or honours year. Postgraduate programs include postgraduate certificate and diploma, masters degree, Master of Philosophy, doctorate and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). FLEXIBILITY TO MEET YOUR ACADEMIC GOALS Many Australian university courses can be tailored to suit your interests and goals. In most courses, you can select electives (subjects) in addition to the required subjects. Students can undertake a double degree, combining two degrees at the same time. Double degrees give you the opportunity to enhance your skills. For example, you could do a double degree in a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws or a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education. You will graduate with two degrees. The Australian university year begins in early March and finishes in late November. Most universities have two semesters, although some do offer a trimester system. Courses start in early March but many universities provide a mid-year intake, so you may be able to commence a course in July.
