The Graduate Certificate in Academic Foundations offers international students a pathway to a Masters Degree by coursework. As a pre-masters course, the certificate: • Qualifies IELTS 6 applicants for postgraduate course entry • Develops the skills needed to be a successful Masters student A DIVERSE AND FRIENDLY STUDENT BODY There are more than 12,000 students representing some 100 countries studying at the University of Canberra. There is on-campus accommodation for 1500 people and many more choose to live in off-campus accommodation of various kinds. Sustained study needs to be balanced by periods of relaxation. The 120-hectare campus is a haven of tall trees, clean air and Professional Doctorate Degrees combine research, coursework and in some cases professional work/industry experience. While they are research-based, they focus on the improvement of professional practice. They are available in the areas of business administration, public administration, information sciences and legal science. IMPRESSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PREPARATION The University’s English Language Institute (UCELI) is part of the University of Canberra College. It has prepared international students for University entry since 1969. The English Access Program (EAP) and Postgraduate Preparation Program (PPP) provide direct entry pathways into all University and University of Canberra College courses. Australian wildlife, including our resident kangaroos, yet it’s just 10 minutes from Canberra’s city centre by bus or car, and within walking distance of the Belconnen shopping, services and entertainment complex. The lively campus is home to a selection of areas to ‘chill out’ from lounges and lawns to coffee shops and eateries offering a mix of Asian and European dishes. There are six ovals, walking and cycling tracks around nearby Lake Ginninderra, and a Health and Fitness centre with gym, weight rooms, squash, volleyball and basketball courts. The campus has weekly market days, visiting bands and is the home of Australia’s largest campus- based music festival, Stonefest, (named after our foundation stone laying day). Many students in all disciplines find themselves engaged in hands- on work experience before graduation. This exposes them to life in the real world, the expectations of employers, and gives them the oppor tunity to see how academic training intersects with practical application. In addition to external internships, the University has its own on- campus working Health Clinic and a Communications Agency where students apply their skills and talents to real brand and marketing challenges from real clients. The University also has a highly professional Law cour t where virtual cases are tried and mooting competitions held, two replica nursing wards, a physiotherapy studio, pharmacy, nutrition and human movement laboratories. There are design studios for architects, interior and landscape architects, graphic, digital and industrial designers and a well equipped workshop where industrial designers bring their creations to life. Applied Science offers forensic, biochemical and environmental laboratories, Education even has its own working Wiradjuri pre- school on campus and Information Sciences and Engineering provide soft ware and game development studios. OUR POSTGRADUATE DEGREES ARE RESPECTED AROUND THE WORLD A PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) enables students to complete extensive, independent research under the super vision of an expert academic. The research culminates in a written thesis, which makes a significant contribution to knowledge in the discipline concerned. Masters by Research programs are offered by most faculties. They have the same underlying principles as a PhD program, though the length of the thesis submitted for examination is shorter. They can be stand-alone programs or pathways to a PhD.
