In addition, there are language laboratories where you can listen to different speakers on a range of topics. You can start an English language course at almost any time of the year. There are flexible commencement dates with full- time courses ranging from four weeks to 48 weeks. Students spend about 25 hours a week studying. The cost of courses varies according to the type of course, location and college. Generally, tuition fees are between $310 to $350 per week for a regular ELICOS course of 25 hours a week. Accredited And QuAlity Assured As with all of Australia’s education system, the ELICOS sector has rigorous standards. Colleges must be CRICOS-registered and comply with the Education Services for Overseas Students Act. Colleges are accredited by the National ELT (English Language Teaching) Accreditation Scheme (NEAS). NEAS sets standards for class sizes, the professional qualifications of teachers, curriculum, teaching methods and materials, orientation, accommodation services, social activities and welfare counselling. The organisation is renowned for initiating world’s best practice in the regulation and quality assurance of English language training. Private and publicly funded institutions must meet the same high standards. English colleges may be members of English Australia or the Australian Council of Private Education and Training (ACPET). English Australia is the national peak body and professional association for the ELICOS sector. All private colleges must subscribe to a Tuition Assurance Scheme guaranteeing that students will be provided with the tuition for which they have enrolled. These arrangements give you a quality system and high levels of support and assurance. English lAnguAgE progrAms Australia has a high standard of education and support in teaching English language programs to international students.
