The Education Destination : Australia The Education Destination 2012
>AUSTRALIAN EDUCATION 2012 145 COURSES AND DISCIPLINES >ENGINEERING AND IT There are plenty of housing options either on campus or close by. At the university campuses in Hobart and Launceston, suitable accommodation is easy to find, either run by the university or privately owned. Private rental houses, homestay and boarding school accommodation are also available. Students often work part-time at restaurants and cafés, in retail or driving a taxi. Not only does this work provide extra spending money, it’s also a good way to get to know locals and improve your English. ENJOY OUTDOOR SPORTS OR CULTURAL ACTIVITIES Temperatures are cooler than elsewhere in Australia because of the southern location. The weather is mild and you can enjoy four seasons throughout the year. Day-time temperatures in Hobart and Launceston range from around 24°C in summer to 12°C in winter. This weather is perfect for outdoor sports such as whitewater rafting and bushwalking. More cultural pursuits include sightseeing Hobart’s historical buildings or browsing through the arts and crafts market at lively Salamanca Place. There are many cafés, restaurants and shops in Hobart and Launceston. Friendly, relaxed, high quality: if good things come in small packages, then for international students, Tasmania is a very good thing indeed. ● Above: International students enjoy the high quality of life at affordable prices.
