It means that wherever you study around Australia, your course will be of the same, consistently high standard. The AQF encourages choice of courses and levels, flexible delivery and life-long learning. It allows you to move through the education system from one qualification to the next level. Students can enter and exit the system at almost any point. Within this flexible system, you can re-enter a vocational or university course at any age to upgrade your skills or change careers. The AQF simplifies international comparison and recognition and contributes to the high level, quality assurance provided to students. The Australian academic year runs from February to december with a long summer holiday break over december and January. Universities and vocational institutes tend to have two semesters, with a holiday break between semesters. Some courses have mid-year intakes around July. Schools tend to have four terms with two to three week holiday breaks.
